Loppersum municipality / Gemeente Loppersum(Gr)

Town and municipality in the northeastern part of the province of Groningen. Apart from Loppersum the municipality comprises 16 villages: Eenum, Garrelsweer, Garsthuizen, Huizinge, Leermens, Middelstum, Oosterwijtwerd , Startenhuizen, Stedum, Toornwerd, Westeremden, Westerwijtwerd, Wirdum, 't Zandt, Zeerijp and Zijldijk.

Stad en gemeente in het noordoostelijk deel van de provincie Groningen. Afgezien van Loppersum bestaat de gemeente uit 16 dorpen: Eenum, Garrelsweer, Garsthuizen, Huizinge, Leermens, Middelstum, Oosterwijtwerd, Startenhuizen, Stedum, Toornwerd, Westeremden, Westerwijtwerd, Wirdum, 't Zandt, Zeerijp en Zijldijk.

 
Loppersum

 

The reformed church is a big cruciform church in combined late Romano-Gothic and Gothic styles, with some fragments in Romanesque style, reminders of the original church built in the 13th century.

De hervormde kerk is een grote kruiskerk, gebouwd in een combinatie van laat romano-gotisch en gotiek met fragmenten in romaanse stijl, restanten van de oorspronkelijke 13e-eeuwse kerk.

Middelstum

For this province, the reformed church of Middelstum is one of few truly Gothic churches. It's a one-aisled cruciform building and was built in the second half of the 15th century.

In deze provincie is de hervormde kerk een van de weinige echt gotische kerken. Het is een eenbeukige kruiskerk en werd gebouwd in de tweede helft van de 15e eeuw.

Stedum

 

One of the biggest churches in Romano-Gothic style is the reformed church of Stedum. The oldest part of the church is the lower part of the tower, which in the first half of the 13th century was added to an earlier church.

Een van de grootste kerken in romano-gotische stijl is de hervormde kerk van Stedum. Het oudste deel van de kerk is het onderste deel van de toren, die in de eerste helft van de 13e eeuw werd toegevoegd aan een eerdere kerk.

't Zand

 

The reformed church is a mostly Romano-Gothic church from the 13th century, but with a 15th-century choir in Gothic style. Standing next to the choir is a free-standing tower from the 13th century.

De hervormde kerk is een grotendeels romano-gotische kerk uit de 13de eeuw, maar met een 15e-eeuws koor in gotische stijl. Naast het koor staat een losse toren uit de 13e eeuw.

Zeerijp

The reformed Jacobuskerk is a one-aisled cruciform church with a free-standing tower. It was built around the mid-14th century and is representative for the last phase of Romano-Gothic.

De hervormde Jacobuskerk is een eenbeukige kruiskerk met een vrijstaande toren. De kerk werd gebouwd rond het midden van de 14e eeuw en is representatief voor de laatste fase van de romano-gotiek.

Leermens

 

The reformed church has a Romanesque nave from the 11th century, a transept in the same style from the 12th century and a Romano-Gothic choir from the 13th century. Until 1822, when it was demolished, the church had a westwork with two towers.

De hervormde kerk heeft een romaans schip uit de 11de eeuw, een transept in dezelfde stijl uit de 12e eeuw en een romano-gotisch koor uit de 13e eeuw. Tot 1822, toen het werd afgebroken, had de kerk een westwerk met twee torens.

Oosterwijtwerd

 

The small reformed church was one of the first brick churches in the province. It was built in ca. 1237. Most of the original Romanesque features have not survived.

De kleine hervormde kerk was een van de eerste bakstenen kerken in de provincie. Zij dateert uit ca. 1237. De meeste van de oorspronkelijke romaanse kenmerken zijn verloren gegaan.
