Heiloo (NH)
Heiloo dates back to the early 8th century and grew around a church founded by the misionary Willibrord in ca. 720. In the Middle Ages the village was of importance for its two centres of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages and remained largely catholic after the Reformation.
Heiloo ontstond bij een kerkje door missionaris Willibrord rond het jaar 720 werd gesticht. In de middeleeuwen was het dorp van belang vanwege haar twee bedevaartsoorden. Na de Reformatie bleef Heiloo grotendeels katholiek.
The
former reformed church,
also known as Witte Kerk ('white church'), is a
one-aisled
church that dates back to the 12th century.
The tower and part of the walls of the nave are in Romanesque
style, while transept and choir are Gothic.

De voormalige hervormde kerk, ook bekend als de Witte Kerk, is een eenbeukige kerk die deels stamt uit de 12e eeuw. De toren en delen van bhet muurwerk zijn in romaanse stijl, terwijl het transept en het koor gotisch zijn.

In 1913 a pilgrims church, the Bedevaartkerk, was built on a pilgrimage site a little south of Heiloo in the hamlet of Kapel, in memory of a chapel which had stood here until 1573. The church, a large three-aisled building, was designed by J. Stuyt. Although meant as a temporary church only, it was never replaced.

In 1913 werd de Bedevaartkerk gebouwd in het bedevaartsoord iets ten zuiden van Heiloo, in het gehucht Kapel, ter herinnering aan een kapel die hier tot 1573 had gestaan. De kerk, een groot driebeukig gebouw, werd ontworpen door J. Stuyt . Hoewel bedoeld als een tijdelijke kerk, werd het gebouw nooit vervangen.

similarities to the church the architect built a year earlier in
Koningsbosch.

Another design by J. Stuyt is the so-called Genadekapel ("chapel of mercy") in the same pilgrimage site where he built a church in 1913. The chapel is one-aisled building built of natural stone and dates from 1930.

The O.L. Vrouwe van Lourdeskapel is the chapel of the Willibrordusstichting, a psychiatric institution. The chapel was built in Traditionalist style in 1938-1940 and was designed by H.J.W. Thunnissen and J.H. Hendricks.
