Aalten municipality / Gemeente Aalten (G)
Municipality in the east of the Achterhoek region, named after the eponymous town-like village. The major other places in the municipality are Bredevoort and Dinxperlo. Population is mostly protestant.
Dorp met stedelijk karakter in het oosten van de Achterhoek. De belangrijkste andere plaatsen in de gemeente zijn Bredevoort en Dinxperlo. De bevolking is voornamelijk protestant.

The reformed church or Helenakerk is a 15th-century Gothic pseudobasilica with a Romanesque tower from the 12th century.

The Gereformeerde Westerkerk is a small building in Neo-Classical style. It was designed by H. van den Brand and built in 1891.

The catholic St. Helena was built in 1950-1952 and was designed by J. van Dongen. It replaced a church designed by A. Tepe, which was destroyed in 1945. Only the two lower segments of the tower remain of Tepe's church.

Bredevoort
The reformed church is a small building in Gothic style. It was built as a protestant church after 1599, several years after the bigger catholic church had been destroyed. In 1639 the church was extended with a side-aisle.

The catholic H. Hart en H. Georgius is an aisleless cruciform church in Neo-Gothic style. It was designed by A. Tepe and built in 1875-1876.

Dinxperlo
The reformed church is a small pseudo-basilica in Gothic style and was built in the 15th- and early-16th century. The part-Romanesque tower dates from c. 1400.

The Rietstapkerk is often called the smallest church in the Netherlands, but in fact this small Neo-Gothic chapel was never used for religious purposes. It was built in 1911-1912 as a testamentary obligation. The building was taken from its original location in 1984 and moved.
