The reformed church of Goudriaan
is an aisleless building dating back to the 15th century. Its oldest
part is the choir in late-Gothic style. The tower was built in the
early 16th century and heightened in ca. 1550. Until a restoration in
1965-1968 the nave was covered with plaster. When this coat was removed
it turned out that little that was really old was left. The originally
cruciform
church was drastically altered after it was damaged by a storm in 1747.
When it was rebuilt in 1751, the transept-arms were demolished, except
for a small part on either side, the
choir was lowered and the nave was narrowed and closed with new
sidewalls. |
