Weesp is a town in the south-east of Noord-Holland, located in between Amsterdam and the Het Gooi region and near the border with Utrecht. Originally a village in Utrecht, Weesp has been a part of Holland since 1317.

The reformed Grote of Laurenskerk is a big Gothic basilica from the 15th and 16th centuries, but with a relatively short Romanesque tower from the 13th century.

The catholic St. Laurentius is a big Neo-Gothic cruciform basilica, designed by Th. Asseler and built in 1876-1877. The tower was originally only as high as the church itself, and was heightened in 1900 by plans by A.M. Bruning.

The Van Houtenkerk or 'chocolate church' was built in 1905-1906 by commission of relatives of a major chocolate factory owner for the liberal Nederlandse Protestanten Bond. It was designed by B.J. Ouëndag and is in Neo-Romanesque style with Jugendstil elements.
