Zutphen (G)

Zutphen is een van de oudste steden van Nederland, en wordt al 1700 jaar continu bewoond. De stad heeft veel historische gebouwen. Onderdeel van de gemeente Zutphen is tevens het dorp Warnsveld.

The St. Walburgiskerk is a big Gothic church with a distinctive silhouet, due to the fact that many of its parts are covered by seperate roofs. Since 1591 the church has been protestant property and is also known as Grote Kerk ('great church').

De St. Walburgiskerk is een grote gotische kerk met een opvallende silhouet, dankzij het feit dat veel van zijn onderdelen worden gedekt door afzonderlijke daken. Sinds 1591 is de kerk in protestantse handen en staat zij ook bekend als Grote Kerk.

The Broederenkerk was the church of the Dominican monastery that in 1293 was founded by Margaretha of Flanders. The church itself was built in 1306-1307 and is remarkably similar to the Dominican's church in Maastricht built several decades earlier, except that that church was built in marl instead of brick. The former church now houses the public library.

De Broederenkerk was de kerk van het Dominicanenklooster dat in 1293 werd opgericht door Margaretha van Vlaanderen. De kerk zelf werd gebouwd in 1306-1307 en vertoont een opvallende gelijkenis met de Dominicanenkerk in Maastricht die enkele decennia eerder werd gebouwd, met als belangrijkste verschil dat die kerk werd gebouwd uit mergel in plaats van baksteen. De voormalige kerk herbergt nu de openbare bibliotheek.

The Nieuwstadkerk or St. Johannes de Doper was built after ca. 1300 as the church of Nieuwstad, a suburb of Zutphen that in 1312 became part of the town. Since 1806, when it was returned to its rightful owners, this has been the major catholic church of Zutphen.

De Nieuwstadkerk of St. Johannes de Doper werd na ca. 1300 gebouwd als de kerk van Nieuwstad, een voorstad van Zutphen die in 1312 een deel van de stad werd. Sinds 1806, toen het gebouw werd teruggegeven aan de rechtmatige eigenaren, is dit de belangrijkste katholieke kerk van Zutphen.

The chapel of the Agnietenconvent ('convent of St. Agnes') dates from 1465, although the convent itself was founded in 1397.

Since 1693 a former house has been used as the Evangelical Lutheran church. For most of the time it looked like a house, until in c. 1850 a facade in an early neo-Gothic style was added. This facade was altered in several ways in 1900 by architect D.J. van Loo.

Sinds 1693 wordt een voormalig huis is gebruikt als Evangelisch-Lutherse Kerk. Lange tijd zag het gebouw er uit als een huis, tot in ca. 1850 een gevel in een vroege neogotische stijl werd toegevoegd. Deze gevel werd in 1900 gewijzigd door architect D.J. van Loo.

Nowadays used by the Salvation Army is this former Gereformeerde kerk in neo-Classical style, built in 1857.

Tegenwoordig wordt deze voormalige Gereformeerde kerk in neoclassicistische stijl uit 1857 gebruikt door het Leger des Heils.

The former Christelijk Gereformeerde kerk ('christan reformed church') was founded in 1889 in a house which dates from 1284 and that was extended several times since. The facade in Eclectic style probably dates from 1889.

The reformed church is a Gothic pseudo-basilica built in the 15th century, although most of the tower dates from the 12th century and is Romanesque.
